Getting the substrate, falls and membrane right

Compliance starts before the membrane goes anywhere near the floor. The substrate needs to be sound, clean, and free of the kind of movement that will crack a membrane later, particle board and fibre cement sheet flooring both need the right fixing and jointing treatment before anything gets applied over them. Floors need to be graded to fall toward the floor waste so water drains rather than pools, and that fall needs to be built into the floor structure or screed, not fixed later by hoping the tiler compensates for it.
